Lay Me Down 02:57
lay me down take it slow you're not just anybody i get lost in my body but with you here and now is it real don't know how to feel you have seen some of what i've seen you're obscene i'm dreaming between night and day left and right here and now then and there day and night lay me down oh my soul stick around hold me close i can bear you let me know is this where you wanna go? even now breathing in loving out loving in i'm still battered and bruised i'm still sad, i still use but you're okay you're alright then and there here and now day and night lay me down

i used to see you all over the place now you can't even look me in the face would you rather that whole chapter be erased or is my character just better off replaced so if you think it's best let's shake hands, forget the rest i already have to deal with everything that's left and how all my favorite songs you just don't get don't worry babe, no need to fret there isn't anybody placing bets on how you're gonna deal with your regret what you give is what you're gonna get so if you think it's best let's shake hands, forget the rest i already have to deal with everything i'm not and how all my favorite songs you never got from phoebe, to joni from louden to tom you hear the words but you listen all wrong and you've only heard maybe three of my songs would you get what i mean or just say they're too long so if you think it's best let's shake hands, forgive the rest i already have to deal with just how much i bled and how all my favorite songs you'll never get from phoebe to joni, from louden to tom you hear the words but you listen all wrong and you've only heard maybe three of my songs would you get what i mean or just say they're too long? they are too long

i could drown you in sugar i could drown you in wine i'd even drown myself in nicotine if i thought i'd be just fine i keep sleeping later, later i keep spending too much time i keep coming home to empty beds and sleeping in my grime i woke up and drank two coffees forgot to eat til four o'clock guess i must have gotten hungry because now i cannot stop i keep telling myself 'no more' then i go on eating still i keep going till there's no more or there's no more time to kill i am running faster, faster when i turn to look behind am i running backward, backward in fast forward or rewind? and i know that it's a cliché it was cliché at the start that you're worse off having known no love than with a broken heart are you worse off having known no love than with a broken heart?

Mockingbird 04:01
which way the moss grows can tell you enough when you've lost your way in the wood the you who's not lost knows it's time to get tough you're not lost you've just misunderstood how many blankets and how many shoes do you need if you're not going far? in winter it's one thing, but don't get the blues it's july and you've got your guitar and the mockingbird sings all night taking wing if not taking flight in the morning the sun comes to tell east from west will you take what you need and abandon the rest, then? six dozen roses and five dozen swords delivered and left at your door so pick up your kisses and put down your words we don't have to fight anymore please don't turn around when i'm saying my piece you said yours and i swallowed my tongue if you can't understand you can listen at least and pretend it's a battle i've won as the mockingbird sings all night taking wing if not taking flight in the morning the crows come to pick up the mess will you tell them 'hello' will you say you know best, then? it's almost nine years since we kissed in the rain now they tell me your cancer is back i wish you good health and i wish you no pain and i wish i could do more than that we were young and in love then i got tired of who i was when i was with you so i told you goodbye in your car and we cried then we said nothing more and made do and the mockingbird sang all night taking wing if not taking flight and i'm mourning for something but what could it be that you must need somebody but you don't need me now the mockingbird sings all night taking wing if not taking flight is it fucked up i'm crying like you've already died i don't know if you're dying, i don't know if i tried enough mockingbird sings all night mockingbird sings all night whatever he's saying it's right mockingbird sings all night

maidenhair ferns, a westward breeze columns of sun fall through bay leaves which way the path goes, we can't see but it feels like family we almost drowned, she broke her bones he found the balance in the stones take care of you, we're almost grown but we're still family eyes that grin behind straw hats henry miller, remember that? golden meadow take me back to my family we were poppin' squats when we had to pee spilled peanut butter, you licked my knee slid down the drainpipe feelin' free and feelin' like family scaled the river in bare feet drank maple coffee, way too sweet but there's plenty more for all to eat because we're family we hit the gorge and then hit grimes i almost fell a couple times then we sat around the campfire makin' up rhymes feelin' like family two of clubs and ten of hearts pass the sketchbook, we'll make art spend time together, and time apart like a family vince went to sleep on a cardboard box mike skinned his elbow on too many rocks and we learned so much on those late night talks 'bout our family those were the days where we would go so we lived in real time, and time still flew for our family we lived in real time and time still flew but we're a family

Roadside 04:49
I'm at a roadside reststop in I-don't-know-which town and I wanna get home but the rain's coming down and where's home anyway? I'm alone anyway I keep giving you warnings, but you won't leave my head I keep waking up mornings thinking I'm in your bed and I love you so much that it hurts not to hate you I hate you so much that I just wanna shake you in my arms, in my arms 'cause all that you been saying amounts to the same thing and I'm running to and fro, you know driving fast but feeling slow I know I wasn't perfect, and I wasn't easy but if that's what you wanted why didn't you leave me we were bad anyway don't know what's left to say I was getting out of town, getting far from you right away I went down, my aloneness just grew to the size of the ocean and the weight of the sea I'm just going through the motions, this ain't even me anymore 'cause all that you been saying amounts to the same thing and I'm trying to go away but some part of me's trying to stay but I better get going before it gets dark but the rain isn't slowing nor is my beating heart and what's love anyway? you said it the other day I guess I wanted you to hold me without holding me down now I'm getting dragged under, you're not even around are you skating on sunshine, have you let go of all this tell me do you feel sorry, tell me do you feel honest anymore anymore? 'cause all that you been saying amounts to the same thing and I wanna let go, but we won't say goodbye tell me where do I go? I can't run, I can't hide

checking in with where we've been not knowing where we'll go from here you go all out when you go all in learn what you want and what you fear is it the same? is it the same? i've been around and i've stayed put how far to go till i belong? a thousand miles or half a foot i'll stay here till i've stayed too long and it's the same and it's the same and one day we'll die and one day we'll know when we say goodbye we'll be saying hello and i won't be surprised if nothing else i'll know that when one thing dies something else can grow i've known you enough to know if we don't quit we'll never learn saturn comes, and saturn goes so brace yourself, it will return and if you could fly would you start from the ground would you get too high or would you keep your head down and if you hit the sky would you soon hit the ground would you say goodbye before you went down and one day we'll die and one day we'll know that when one thing dies something else can grow when one thing dies something else can grow
